Osteon

Warning: this picture contains levels of awesome so high they may be hazardous to your health

Osteon is a Darkling Lord with the power to magically activate technological vehicles. He puts this to good use with the deadly Grappler vehicle. His totem form is that of a crystal skeleton.

Due for release in 1988, Osteon was cancelled along with everything else in Visionaries' second year.

Toys[]

  • Grappler

The role of Osteon will tonight be played by Cravex.

Grappler with Osteon (1988 - cancelled)
    • Accessories: Unknown
Although Osteon is named in the 1988 Toy Fair catalogue as the packed-in driver of the Darkling Lord Grappler, he's not actually shown in the accompanying photograph, or anywhere else.

Notes[]

  • For years Osteon remained a mystery, more so than all the other unreleased figures, due to being MIA for the catalogue. It was only when the above concept art sold at auction that anything became known about him.[1]
  • Speaking of the concept art, it's by Visionaries production designer and all-round comic book legend Neal Adams.
  • It's the auctioneer's information for the concept art that states Osteon's totem form as a crystal skeleton. Where they got that info from exactly isn't revealed. Concept art for Osteon gives his totem form as "evil tech skeleton".
  • The auction catalogue also states that the chest plate picture and the entire hand weapon are separate pieces of paper pasted onto the rest of the picture, which suggests that either they are replacements for earlier concepts, or were designed/approved after the rest of Osteon's design.
  • Why Osteon has a power shield when he's a vehicle driver figure is unknown, but certainly unusual.
  • "Osteon" is actually a scientific term that's, erm, something to do with bones. [2]
